9-19-2010 – Boat delivery – Boy’s weekend

Greg and Jack, it was a memorable weekend. I am ever grateful for your help and companionship along the way. In 3 and half days we covered 233 miles and 6 locks on a slow but comfortable boat. In addition, we:
·         Got to know one another a little better.
·         Learned the meaning of “one whistle” and “two whistles.”
·         Had the opportunity to lock-down in between a 14 barge up-bound tow. “Pleasure boat where are you?”
·         Learned that it is important when overtaking a tow, that simple communication with the captain insures that he knows to give way as we are passing.
·         And, learned that some pleasure boat captains think that they deserve the same courtesy as the tug who is really encumbered.
·         Looked at the city and the state from a totally different angle.
·         Met some really nice people.
·         But, didn’t see any really big Asian Carp.
·         Shared a part of my dream. While the trip could be accomplished by myself, it has long been my goal to share as much of it with as many as possible.
Thanks for cavorting with “the enemy”. We look forward to your coming back for another leg. I will pass on to Al your comments regarding the locks that he missed. But we will have plenty of our own.
From now on we are going to slow down a bit!
