10-06-10 – A long day on the Mississippi

Sleeping Bear managed 110 miles in 10 hours yesterday thanks to the help of 4 to 5 mph current. However, fog in the morning delayed the start until after 9AM. We anchored last evening as the sun had set in a quiet spot south of Cape Girardeau, Mo. While the progress is good, it just does not leave much time to update the blog.
Well, here it is 9:10 on Wednesday morning. It is clear at the anchorage. However, word back from the 3 other boats who anchored here last night is that there is a huge fog bank on the river, south of where we are sitting. Taking advantage of the postponement flag, I will do a brief update for the readers.
Yesterday was a long day. Today will be as long as well as we try to complete the trip down the Mississippi and head up the Ohio River. Reported delays at the only operating lock between here and Lake Cumberland will limit how gar we can travel today. The fog delay does not help.
We are joining up with three other boats today whose owners seem to have a good angle on where to stop. The Fog delay has just been lift and we/re off.
More later……………..
